Travel with your family needs preparations. Whether it’s a simple weekend getaway or a major trip, there are also significant benefits for traveling by car. Here are some do’s and don’ts.
Do’s:
- Prepare an itinerary: Plan several stops for restrooms breaks and snacks.
- Map out a route: Look for roadblocks prior to your trip.
- Travel Bags: Make a travel bag for each child with their favorite (car friendly toys, books). These bags can be handled by the front seat passenger to give out during the trip.
- Pack a cooler: Fill a cooler lunch bag with favorite items to make the trip more enjoyable.
- Be positive: Appropriate behavior should be rewarded. Bring something as an incentive.
Don’ts:
- Wing it: It is all about preparation. Map your trip and check the internet for possible roadblocks prior to the start of your trip.
- Show frustration: Car trips are confining. When things don’t go as planned be upbeat and try not to be a trigger for your child.
- Assume: Your child might do every well in the car for short trips. Longer trips may cause anxiety. Stop and “smell the roses” to break the trip into smaller increments.
A road trip could be the answer for your family to get away. You know your family better than anyone. Using all of the tools in your arsenal, plan the vacation to fit your family.
